Webinar Overview

This 60-minute webinar explores the ethical, clinical and systemic challenges of providing palliative care to patients living with serious mental illness. Using a real case of a long-term institutionalised patient with complex medical and neurocognitive decline, the panel highlights how palliative care principles can be applied meaningfully within psychiatric settings.

The session unpacks key considerations including decision-making capacity, diagnostic shadowing, best interest decision-making and the impact of institutionalisation, while also exploring the role of psychiatry within the multidisciplinary team. It offers a practical and reflective look at how to deliver equitable, ethically grounded, person-centred care for this vulnerable population.
