About the author and presenter
Karen du Toit is a pharmacist and attorney. She has work experience in retail and hospital pharmacy, academia at law firms and more recently as consultant to the pharmaceutical industry. Karen served as an Honorary Professor at the University of Kwazulu-Natal’s School of Health Sciences and was involved in curriculum development and training of under- and postgraduate pharmacy students specifically in pharmaceutical chemistry. She was also involved in research pertaining to
traditional medicine as well as drug design and development. Karen worked in the field of intellectual property at two well-known intellectual property law firms. She has been involved as an expert in interesting current litigation pertaining to medicines and pharmacy practice. She also evaluated dossiers and was a member of the Good Practices Committee of the Medicines
Regulatory Authority of South Africa. She has also recently been appointed on a Ministerial Appeal Committee as provided for in the Medicines Act.
