Course overview
The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines palliative care as an approach enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families dealing with challenges linked to life-threatening illnesses. This involves preventing and alleviating suffering through early identification and meticulous assessment, addressing pain and other issues across physical, psychosocial, and spiritual dimensions (WHO: 2020).
This short course delves into the comprehensive field of palliative care, guiding participants to define and understand its principles, ethical considerations, and the pivotal role of communication. Through exploration of holistic assessment, effective pain management, and addressing common physical symptoms, participants will gain the skills needed for providing holistic end-of-life care, emphasising psychosocial and spiritual aspects.
