FUNDISA is a registered Not-for-Profit Organization (registration number: 076981 NPO) that is the national voice for South Africa’s nursing and midwifery programmes in higher education. FUNDISA provides ongoing events and opportunities to advance the interests and needs of nursing scholarship, through strategic partnerships with donors, regulators, other non-profit organisations, companies, associations, professional bodies, health and nursing faculties.

FUNDISA represents 21 member university nursing departments and 2 associate members namely the Harry Crossley Children’s Nursing Development Unit (UCT-CNDU) associated with the University of Cape Town previously known as the Child Nursing Practice Development Initiative (CNPDI), and the Quality in Nursing and Midwifery (NuMIQ) associated with the North-West University Potchefstroom campus previously known as the Quality in Nursing and Midwifery (INSINQ).

Course developers & authors

Dr Patricia Mudzi
Dr Patricia Mudzi, a Programme Manager with a PhD in Nursing, brings extensive expertise in nursing education, public health, project management, and leadership. With a strong academic foundation and experience as a lecturer, she has led national training programmes, coordinated multi-partner research projects, and contributed to capacity-building initiatives. Passionate about advancing teaching and learning, she has secured over R3 million in grants to empower nurse educators and strengthen leadership in healthcare. She is skilled in curriculum development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic project execution.
Prof Anna van der Wath
Prof Annatjie van der Wath started her career in 1982 as a mental health nurse whereafter she specialised in child psychiatric nursing. She joined the University of Pretoria in 2009 as a lecturer in mental health nursing and was promoted to professor. Prof van der Wath is an experienced qualitative researcher who supervised 50 masters and doctoral students, and published 45 scientific articles. She served on the board of Gauteng College of Nursing and the Academy of Nursing of SA. After her retirement in 2024, Annatjie was appointed as the CEO of the Forum of University Nursing Deans of SA.
