Webinar Overview

This 60-minute recorded webinar brings together a multidisciplinary panel to explore how to recognise and respond to existential distress in palliative care.

Using real clinical cases, the discussion unpacks how suffering can extend beyond the physical, including loss of meaning, spiritual pain and psychological distress, and how different members of the care team can support patients and families.

Through practical insights and reflection, the session highlights approaches to compassionate communication, interdisciplinary collaboration and navigating complex ethical considerations, helping clinicians provide thoughtful, person-centred care.

About the Academic Institution

PALPRAC is a national network of healthcare professionals dedicated to improving quality of life for people living with serious illness. Founded in 2018, we bring together doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver compassionate, person-centred palliative care across Southern Africa.
Through education, advocacy, and collaboration, we equip multidisciplinary teams to relieve suffering, support dignity, and honour what matters most to patients and their families. We support healthcare professionals to be change agents in their own settings, and we engage with the wider health system to drive the changes needed to ensure everyone has access to quality palliative care. All healthcare professionals are welcome to join, with membership options to suit every role and level of experience.
