Course overview

The Short Course in Emergency Medicine is designed to equip healthcare practitioners with the essential knowledge and skills needed to provide effective emergency care, particularly in settings where capacity is limited. Many hospitals and emergency units face challenges due to inadequately trained staff, leading to potential mismanagement of life-threatening conditions. In response to the global call by the WHO in December 2018 to improve emergency care, this course addresses the critical need for well-trained practitioners capable of delivering timely and appropriate interventions to preserve life.

Developed by experienced emergency medicine experts, the course focuses on building a structured and effective approach to managing emergencies under pressure. Participants will gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of emergency protocols, enabling them to minimise errors and improve patient outcomes.

This is a blended learning course, requiring participants to complete an online theoretical component before attending a two-day, case-study based interactive workshop. To complete the online component participants must pass the module quizzes with a minimum score of 70%, ensuring they have mastered the essential knowledge prior to attending the workshop. Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals for 30 CEU’s on Level 2.
