The course also addresses the challenges posed by common comorbid conditions and their impact on diagnosis and treatment planning. Learners will be guided through the application of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and trained to recognise environmental and developmental risk factors such as antenatal stress, attachment disruptions, and early trauma.

A key focus of the course is differential diagnosis, helping professionals distinguish ADHD from other conditions with overlapping symptoms. Treatment strategies are explored in depth, covering both pharmacological options, including stimulant and non-stimulant medications, dosing strategies, and side effect management, and non-pharmacological interventions such as behavioural therapies, parenting support, school-based accommodations, and lifestyle modifications. The course concludes with a discussion on the long-term implications of ADHD, including risks related to academic underachievement, substance abuse, and social functioning.
